VIVIANE HOULE'S TWIXT

Viviane's new album, TRIEZE, was just released on the Drip Audio label and has garnered absolutely fantastic reviews.  It's an album of duos with some of Vancouver's finest improvisers, including Peggy Lee, Jesse Zubot, Chris Gestrin, Ron Samworth, and myself among many more.  Viviane and I met when she sang my composition PIG for a recording session and at my grad recital.  Much music and a good friendship later, I'm extremely happy to have her in my musical family.  Viviane is a truly amazing singer and fearless improviser, possessing a huge palette of extended vocal techniques and the sensitivity to pierce and shred you with gentle balladry of the heart.  In Twixt, we're exploring the realms of free improvisation, improvised song and written song, and I have it on my list to compose a song cycle for Viviane and an ensemble consisting of violin, cello, double bass, trumpet, clarinet, sax, and piano.  The music we create live is always an adventure, threatening to turn from a rainbow into the monster in your closet in a single breath. Or maybe there's a rainbow in there… no, really, just open the door and find out… it'll probably be really happy to see you… just turn the handle…
